PemTel's reaction to COVID-19

PemTel is committed to “being the provider of choice for affordable, quality communications services to meet the needs of our customers” as described in our Mission Statement.

Our Core Values include:
  • For our customers, we will provide quality service on a personal basis with honesty and integrity.
  • For our owners/ members, we will operate business in a fiscally responsible manner to ensure long term financial viability.
  • Our employees are our most important asset. We will equip them with the opportunities and tools needed to be successful and to help them grow as we grow.
  • For our community, we will work to enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve and will be good corporate citizens.
At PemTel we adopted this mission statement and core values in a board room in Pembroke, Giles County, VA nearly 20 years ago. These are not mere words, but a commitment that we take seriously, just as we all need to take this COVID-19 virus seriously.

These are some of the measures that we are taking to provide continuity of services during this time:

We are closing our business office to walk-in traffic. We are still processing payments through our drive-thru window, over the phone and online. New service applications are being processed at the drive-thru as well.

We have suspended visits inside of customer’s homes during this critical time to prevent the possibility of bringing the virus to our valued customers and to minimize the chance of one of our employees contracting it from an unsuspecting carrier.

We have reduced our workforce’s hours to prevent a possible exposure to all of our employees at one time.

In accordance with the orders of Governor Northam, our Board of Directors has elected to postpone the annual membership meeting scheduled in May to a date to be determined after this has passed. Capital Credit checks will be issued on schedule.

A wireless Hotspot will be opened at the former Triangle Ruritan Building at 250 Sugar Run Road for citizens who do not have internet access and need to utilize the service from their vehicles.

A Facebook page has been set up to provide customers information about news and announcements from the Cooperative.

And finally, our Board has voted to give each broadband subscriber a $10.00 credit for the months of April, May and June as relief for those who may be facing job uncertainty or loss or who have to work from home. This credit might be just enough for you to increase your bandwidth to help you and your family utilize the internet a little more since everybody may be working and schooling from home.

If there is any way that PemTel can better serve the customers in the areas that we serve please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our five Board Members or contact one of our staff members at our business office at 540-626-7111.
