announcements
On July 24, 2024, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced more than $41 million in grants through the Virginia Telecommunications Initiative (VATI) for ten broadband construction projects serving twenty localities throughout Virginia. The VATI program provides targeted funding to extend service to areas that are presently unserved by any broadband provider.
Projects were selected through a competitive process that evaluated each project for demonstrated need and benefit for the community, applicant readiness and capacity, and the cost and leverage of the proposed project. The level of funding awarded is based on the infrastructure needs in the project area.
PemTel is pleased to announce that we, in partnership with Giles County, received a grant in the amount of $4,199,596.00 to be used for construction of a fiber network on the Rt. 100/Rt. 42 corridor. This fiber network will provide state of the art broadband service to the unserved and underserved residents of these areas.
The project's engineering phase is currently in progress. While a specific timeline is not yet available, we will provide updates on the project's status as it advances. We are eager to offer high-quality, reliable, and affordable fiber broadband internet service to our new friends and neighbors in the grant areas!
